ServersCheck is an Network Management System (NMS) and server monitoring tool. The software will monitor, report and alert on network, server and other IT systems availability. It has over 60 different types of checks.
If problems are detected, it will alert you via cell phone text messages, e-mail, MSN and much more. It can even take corrective actions by restarting a server or service. The software runs on Windows based systems and is managed via a browser based interface.
The external temperature probe adds an additional monitoring point to the SensorGateway. For example by using 2 external temperature probes you can monitor with one single device temperature in 3 different points.
It can monitor temperature in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit within a range of -55°C to +75°C (-67ºF to +167ºF). It has a precision of ±0.1ºC (0.18ºF) with an accuracy of ±0.5°C (0.9°F) from -10°C to +85°C (-14°F to 185°C).
The probe connects via the shipped RJ45 cable to the SensorGateway on the Probe 1 or Probe 2 port. It can alert you autonomously through email or SNMP Traps. Need SMS alerting? Then this is possible by using the ServersCheck Monitoring Software/Appliance which monitors centrally all different sensors running in your network.
Temperature and Humidity
Not only temperature affects systems performance but also humidity can cause rapid deterioration of systems. Monitoring humidity in a data center is as important as monitoring temperature! Too low humidity may result in ESD causing immediate permant equipment damage. Too high humidity could create corrosion on components, a slow and often irrevirsible process.
ServersCheck offers a low cost PoE & SNMP ethernet based sensor for monitoring not only humidity but also temperature 24×7. This sensor measures the relative humidity (0 and 100 % RH) and temperature (-40 C and +75 C, -40 F to +167 F) with improved resolution. This sensor is designed to monitor conditions in server rooms and other sensitive area’s. You get 2 temperature sensors: one, non-calibrated, built-in into the SensorGateway and one inside the external probe. Humidity reading is done through the external probe.
Almost any server room is equipped with UPS systems (batteries) that kick in when the main power supply goes out. However knowing when this occurs is a different thing. While the more expensive UPS systems have some kind of management and alerting system, the most popular ones don’t have it.
The power failure sensors from ServersCheck enable you to get alerts when the main power goes out. The sensor comes with an external power adapter that is plugged into the main power line. The sensor itself has to be powered by a UPS system so that it still can send alerts in the event of a mains power outage. By default alerts are sent by the sensor via email and SNMP Traps. Using the optional ServersCheck Monitoring Software/Appliance alerts can be sent via SMS directly over the mobile phone network to your cell phone.
The sensors are PoE and SNMP enabled. The sensor can be queried in real time by any SNMP capable network management system such as Tivoli, OpenView, Nagios, MRTG, …
Shock and Vibration
The ServersCheck vibration and shock sensors are designed for 2 main purposes:
1) detect and record tampering, moving, removal or installation of equipment inside racks
2) detect and record vibration or shock inside rooms especially for sensitive equipment such as traditional hard disks
Different manufacturers offer vibration sensors that are analog based: an alert will be triggered if motion has been detected. Unlike those sensors, ServersCheck’s shock and vibration sensor will report the actual force being recorded. This multi-axis G force allows to detect accurately the level of vibration and also allows you to define the exact threshold you want to be alerted on.
The sensors can be used in data centers, server rooms, racks, telecom equipment rooms or any other location where you want to monitor and record the level of shock or vibration. Like all other ServersCheck sensors, this sensor can be queried over SNMP by any network monitoring system such as ServersCheck’s own Monitoring Software.
Flooding/ Water Detection
Water damage is probably the most unknown environmental threat for a computer room. Water in a server room can come from multiple sources:
– defect air conditioning systems
– leakage from pipes running through the computer room
– leakage in rooms next or above the computer room
– leakage from the roof
Water is often not visible as most computer rooms are equipped with a raised floor. When early detected, catastrophic damage to the systems and data can be avoided.
ServersCheck offers a low cost sensor for monitoring water leaks, wetness and flooding 24×7. This sensor can detect water or moisture present on floors, carpets and other surfaces. It requires the SensorGateway to operate.

Alerting you even when your network is down
SMS or cell phone text messaging alerting ensures you to be notified of problems even when your TCP/IP network is down. SMS (text messages) alerts are sent using the included modem over the mobile cell phone network. In the Philippines, it works with Globe, Smart, or Sun Cellular.
ServersCheck supports GSM modems from multiple brands as an add-on to the Monitoring Software. Why having a GSM modem for a monitoring software package?
Like most vendors ServersCheck supports alerting via email and other network related protocols. The problem with those alert options is that you are not getting any alerts as soon as your mail server or Internet connection fails. The whole purpose of monitoring is to be alerted.
That’s where SMS alerting comes in. With SMS alerting over a GSM modem one gets alerts even when the network is down. The software directly communicates with the modem to send out the alert.
Unique with ServersCheck is that you can also send commands via SMS to the monitoring software offering a secure 2 way SMS communication.
The compatible brands for the Monitoring Software are: Zoom, Huawei, ZTE, Nokia, Sierra Wireless. The modems have to be 3GPP and GSM compliant in order to work with the ServersCheck Monitoring Software.
The ServersCheck SensorGateway: probably one of the most cost effective IP, PoE & SNMP temperature sensors.
ServersCheck offers its SNMP, IP & PoE enabled thermometer for monitoring temperature 24×7. The sensor is powered through PoE or power adapter and has a built-in temperature probe. Each SensorGateway has its own IP address and has a built-in web server.
The SensorGateway continously reads sensor probe values, compares them to preset thresholds and generates alerts via email from inside the box. For centralized monitoring of multiple sensors or for SMS alerting capabilities, you can go for the ServersCheck Monitoring Appliance or ServersCheck Monitoring Software. Third party Network Management Systems like Nagios, MRTG, WhatsUp, Tivoli, OpenView can also communicate with ServersCheck’s sensors using SNMP.
To the SensorGateway you can add up to 2 additional external sensor probes: temperature, humidity, flooding or power failure.
